The bad news....Today we are under a severe weather storm warning with possible Tornado's!  Whaaaa! 

The good news.....they say tomorrow (Sundays) weather will be back to awesome.   So if there is no damage back in business on Sunday. 

Travel to Antique Flea Markets 1972 Airstream

I am always looking for new "easier/better ways" to travel to the antique/flea Shows as I need comfort- which translates to all my favorite stuff. 

I was wondering with all the travel to shows either as a buyer or seller how Do y'all manage?

Since I am asking I'll share what I came up with.

Long ago (15 years ago) I started off  with a very temperamental OLD 19 foot motor home.  While it had all I needed and pulled all my goodies stuffed into a 12 foot trailer.  Not enough room I found out real fast.  PLUS  My transmission went out on a trip, told myself that will never happen to me again...Sooooo

I sold the old motor home ...buying the below vintage retro 1962 trailer on eBay.   Fixed it up real cute in fun retro turquoise pulled it with my long bed pickup truck. 

Stuffing items into the 12 foot camper trailer and the back end of the truck.  Drats...still too small! 

So I sold my retro aqua baby and with the profit from that work...bought myself my real dream a 1972 Airstream 25 feet long. 

Packing all the antique/vintage furniture to sell in Atlanta- such as beds, smalls and such inside the Airstream...holds tons of goodies!  Then the larger items such as dressers, tables and such on to the truck bed.  It is a 3/4 ton truck with a long bed.

Only pain in the bum - I must get the Airsteam unloaded right away. 
So far its been worth it- as I then have my own bed, my sheets and blankets (especially after watching that show on 60 minutes) refrigerator packed with food- saves a lot of money not eating out. My own bathroom.  And outfitted with a generator to work the air conditioner if I don't have an elect socket to plug into.  Must have air conditioners in the South!

Oh...and a closet large enough to take all the clothes and other stuff I might need.
OK... I am guilty of wanting it all.  I am the fist to admit I am very much Like a princess and a pea in her bed.  I won't share here the lengths I go to with my bedding. 

I am closer to having the inside finished ...Gypsy style thanks to my love of Magnolia Pearl of Texas

Below is a picture of the front sofa, under the large front window.  I sit to watch TV and read.   The colors I am using.. Aqua's, rich pinks to rich purples with some copper thrown in.   All from estate sales etc.  Working on this baby since 2009 when I bought her.   Fun!  I would put antique lace at the windows...alas my dog family travels with me, so no lace.  Here is one of my girls, Chelsea.
That iron scroll looking thing to the right is a small 1930's wrought iron chair I use for sitting at the table, when its not loaded with books. 
Need more old velvet and that fantastic vintage looped ribbon fringe I so love.  Along the lines of my sofa colors.

Here is a baby petite chandelier with ruby and amber French beads along with Czech cherries on the sides -going to be in the Airstream to give you an idea of the direction I am going.  I had it tagged to sell in my store...but could not bring myself to do so.  In the Airstream it goes.

Here's an ick picture of the sofa that is original...not for this lover of rich satin.  I will be doing the flooring in natural cork.

Nashville Flea Market & Brick Store Hills Chapel Antiques Work

My brick store in Nashville is open this week Wednesday Thur Saturday Noon till PM and we are also getting ready for another Nashville Flea Weekend this March 26 Thur March 28.

It has been such a busy week.  One of my projects is just about finished.  An antique old bed no one wanted ..except for me of course.  It is one of those old ones that is just about unusable nowadays as it is what is known as a three quarters size bed.  Bigger than a twin but smaller than a full size bed.  So I made a bench.

Nashville Antique Flea Market -Work to do

My mind is full as usual with the Nashville Tn. Fair Gounds Flea Market coming up the end of this month.  So many things to get done, let alone packing.   The show this month is February 26th to February 28th.  I usually take a lot of furniture but this time I am also taking some sweet pottery.

I have been racking my brain trying to come up with something for that white canopy I use at the market.  Lace border along the edging?  No, as I so dislike the thought of antique lace getting dirty.  Ok...I admit Laundry is not one of my things I like to do.  So what to do??  I like unique and different from what everyone else is doing.  Huge sigh, a blank mind in just what to do!

I know I am taking my favorite Antique French Wire Shopping Basket with me.  Found in a wonderful old stone home up in Nasvhille that was built in the 1920's. 
I admit I have a "thing" for old baskets and use mine all the time.  I use them instead of a purse.  Holds everything I might need.

Antiques Reasons why we Collect them, Love them, buy and sell them.

Antiques & Vintage some Reasons why we Collect them, Love them, buy and sell them.

People collect antiques for many different reasons & there are a lot of different views as to why. Here a few of my thoughts & if you would please ….let me know why or how you started. Myself I am a combo of all of the below.

1. I find it interesting that in my store I have met a lot of people that love restoring old pieces, not so much so that they could sell it for more but simply because they gained satisfaction from doing so.  Here is a before picture and after picture that I thought was fun. A old iron & wood bench glider from the 1930’s a customer finished.  He was kind enough to send me before and after pictures.

2. People wanting to furnish their home- look for antiques. Antiques of different time periods -different Era’s often look fantastic together to create a beautiful home. My home is a mixture of French, Italian and Cottage old farm painted items. And of course a main love of mine…chandeliers as to me they are the jewelry of the room.

3. Antique lovers who enjoy the chase more than anything. They enjoy searching through stores and antique shops all over the country searching for that specific or unusual item they been looking for. I love watching a couple enter my store and have the man or women call loudly across the room with excitement…honey I found it!  Myself I love the Thrill of the hunt.  That heart pounding moment when you spot something that makes your heart go pitty pat. 

4. During the fall I had the pleasure of meeting mother daughter shoppers in my store. They were into buying dressers and beds for their daughter’s collage dorm rooms. Feathering their daughters nest away from home is what I called it.  Here is one of my favorite beds I sold and I still Miss that bed. Huge sigh!

Antique Vintage Desks * Work for Hills Chapel Antiques

Taking a break from working on my antique chandeliers and switching to work on vintage antique desks. 
This old pine roll up one I cannot decide if I want to paint or just add a wax finish to it.  I am thinking of just waxing to bring out the old pine that is so popular in the West Coast.  What do you think?  Any suggestions?

Antique Farm Auction Strange Finds to fall in Love with

Do you have any strange odd, strange or super wonderful auction finds/buys? 
Here is the best thing that ever happened to me at a farm auction!

Estate auctions here in the South-quite a few of them are held on-site. Where the house, property and everything in the home is auctioned off.

One wet cold day (last spring) at a 100 year old farm estate auction, there was a very young dog running all over with excitement. You know one of those pups that are desperate to be petted/loved on.  One of those goofy pups so filled with excitement and jumping on everyone with her very icky muddy paws.  I am talking about very wet heavy clay Southern type of mud. 
Even my back side had muddy paw prints before the auction was over. 

Here she is.  She is exhausted after that long auction and the ride to her new home.  On the window seat behind my desk is where she parked herself right away.   Needless to say for the first few days we had to carry her into the house- as she was so afraid of being kicked away like her last home.  Now of course its like what me stay outside??

Upon petting the sweetie I was horrified to feel nothing but skin and bones. She had long thick hair and you could not see the bones. The kind of starvation where you feel every bone of the back bones. Heartbreaking. Someone walked by at that moment and dropped a paper that had held their sausage biscuit.  She pounced on that grease filled paper and stated to eat the paper!   Poor baby. I travel with my own food so needless to say- my lunch went to her right away.

All though the day I watched that poor baby root through the garage cans etc.  Long story short- the farmer holding the sale said he wanted to get rid of her. She sure likes you (meaning me) "take her". I said if she is yours she is starving!! He retorted that he was not about to spend his money on feeding that dog.

Needless to say I could not leave her. My brain was saying not another dog (I already had 2 rescued dogs at home) but I followed my heart. Removed her that day (Saturday) and by Monday she was at my Vet. We thought she was about 4 months old. With my vet confirming my fears that she would not of lasted much longer.

Here she is now…almost 1 year old. A very sleek, tall leggy beauty. A real sweetheart.  Have no idea but a few guesses at to what breed of dog she is.  Border Collie mix perhaps?    In this picture she is looking up into the tree for the squirrel that drives her crazy.

I love using old garden planters in my garden. I am thinking of keeping two and planting with herbs and lettuces.

I was lucky enough to find 10! From (around 1930's era) old thick oh so whimiscal twisted wrought iron flower buckets Each with old water buckets inside.

My heart went pitty pat when I saw these. Thinking of listing on my ebay site. Huge sigh, the packing will be quite a bit as they are so heavy and oversized.

The old Barn oh so dark and spider filled- pictured below that started it all.






How did the Hills Chapel Antique Store start?
Above is a picture of the old barn that started it all.  Looks like a small barn ...not...it is about 30 to 40 feet deep. Loaded with items from the 1900's to the 1940's.  Along with tons of spider webs,  items stored for so long it was hard to see under the layers of dust.  Plus it was a very hot oh so very hot sticky humid day.  What a treasure hunt it was! 

One of my best guy buddies Charlie and I were at an Estate Auction in middle Tennessee. There were clusters of old falling down outbuildings and this old barn on the property. He knew I would want to buy the barn out and of course I knew he wanted the barn.

The barn was stashed with items stored for over 80 years. There were WW2 radios, an Art Deco Coast Guard radio (all sold on eBay to collectors) to a rare Victorian Baking table along with old honey hives, and of course tools nuts and bolts. Overwhelming to say the least...So we went in as partners on buying the contents of the barn.  Took 3 of us over a week to load our trucks.

Some time after buying out this barn above -talking with Charlie I said  "I needto open a store open part time as I had such a stash of incredible antique/vintage items". He knew of the property and within one week we opened the Hills Chapel Antique Store in Nashville Tennessee.  Once upon a time it was a Baptist Church.
